Accessibility

At the Highlander Ponteland, accessibility and inclusivity are at the heart of our hospitality. We believe that everyone should feel welcome, comfortable, and valued when they step through our doors, and we continually work to remove barriers so that all guests can enjoy the same warm experience.

The main bar area is wheelchair accessible via a built-in ramp to our side entrance of the building. There is also a removeable ramp used to access the main seating area internally.

The beer garden is also accessible via the rear door and side gate, with no ramp required. From here, guests can easily move between the restaurant and the beer garden itself, ensuring full access to all main areas of the pub.

Our team are always on hand to offer assistance with the internal ramp, but our aim is to ensure independence and dignity for all visitors.

Inclusivity

Beyond physical accessibility, we place equal importance on inclusivity. Our team is trained to provide a thoughtful, sensitive service, whether that means adapting menus for dietary requirements, catering for families with young children, or supporting guests with additional needs.

We have clear signage throughout, an accessible restroom and baby changing facilities. The layout of the building has been adapted, where possible, to allow ease of movement in busier periods.

Inclusivity shapes how we operate as an employer. We actively recruit from the local community and provide training opportunities that encourage confidence, growth, and career progression for staff of all ages and backgrounds. By fostering a supportive working environment, we reflect our wider ethos of welcoming everyone.
